Description:

The beep test, or 20-m shuttle run test, is a standardized progressive aerobic cardiovascular endurance assessment widely utilized by various international sports teams. This application guides users through a series of stages incorporating diverse physical tasks to estimate their VO2 max (maximum oxygen uptake).

The multi-stage fitness test, known as the pacer test, comprises continuous running between two points set 20 meters apart. This running is synchronized with the app, which emits beeps (or whistles) at designated intervals. Throughout the test, the time gap between consecutive beeps diminishes, compelling the participant to escalate their speed until synchrony is unattainable (or in extremely rare scenarios until completion of the test). Participants are granted one beep before reaching the line. Failure to reach the next interval results in the latest completed level being their final score.

The test typically unfolds in 21 'levels', each lasting approximately 62 seconds. The beep interval commences requiring a speed of 8.5 km/h, increasing by 0.5 km/h with each subsequent level. Advancement from one level to the next is signaled by two quick beeps. The highest level accomplished before failing to keep pace serves as the recorded score for that test.
